Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Pakistan care deals with curative
medicines only. It has a narrow interpretation of health. It ignores the medical, psychological, and social aspects of health.
There are only a few people who live a healthy lifestyle. Pakistan ranks 154th among 195 countries in terms of quality and accessibility of healthcare, according to Lancet’s study. 78 percent of the population pays health care expenses but unfortunately, there is no national health insurance system. Why our health sector is considered as most corrupt according to Transparency international surveys?
A third-world country like Pakistan is struggling hard in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Most people are suffering from psychiatric illnesses. Our country ranks 5th number in noncommunicable diseases. There are only estimated 400 to 500 psychiatrists for the 240 million (2025) population of Pakistan; Nation’s Health infrastructure is comprised of 1297 hospitals only. There is only one doctor for 1764 patients in Pakistan. What should be done to improvise Pakistan’s health care system is a multimillionaire question. Our state needs to provide basic health facilities to everyone without creating differences between classes. 50 percent of the population is already living below the poverty line. Government should allocate more GDP to the health sector. The number of hospitals should be increased so everyone can access them. Along with that accountability of healthcare workers should be carried out. Adopting the aforementioned measures, can facilitate Pakistan’s public and easily able to sort out health issues.
